After 35 years as the Club Manager of St Andrew’s Club, Paul Whittle will be retiring at the end of this Club year. This is very sad news as Paul has been a remarkable leader of the Club seeing it through many good and some difficult times. The Trustees, staff and members of the Club owe him a great debt of gratitude for his considerable contribution to St Andrew’s and the local community.
As a result of Paul’s impending retirement the Trustees have considered how he might best be replaced and have recruited two positions: Annette Fettes, previously Development Director has been appointed Chief Executive and is now in post. She is taking on Paul’s responsibilities for the strategy, management, and administrative side of the Club, answering to the Trustees; and Sarah Nicholls, previously Deputy Manager Youth Worker, has now been appointed Youth Club Manager, and is responsible for the youth programme and youth workers, reporting to Annette.
We advertised both positions externally but are delighted that the best candidates were those from within the Club, ensuring a smooth handover and transition from 1 May to the end of July when Paul leaves. Both are totally committed to the ethos and purpose of the Club and its role in our members’ lives. Both will aim to maintain its strong and proud connections to its incredible 153 year past AND to thrive in a new era when our work is needed as much as ever.
